Who's afraid of the "big bad wolf?"  We all are.  Because sooner or later, he seems to be scratching at everyone's door.

We often think that having money in the bank, in the stock market, or having solid real estate investments are assurance that we are secure for our future.  But there are few today who do not feel the hot breath of the wolf breathing down their necks.  There are rumors of a second wave of foreclosures due to hit the market and the economy certainly does not give any hint of improvement in the near future.

Many of the wolf's activities are happening to us or people we know:  a loss of job, a failed business, care for elderly parents, terminal illnesses, major home repairs needed, veterinary care for beloved pets, escalating food, gas and utility prices . . . . . . . we are all feeling the stress and struggles of these lean times.

However, poverty is always experienced in the soul before it is felt in the pocketbook.  We can live well despite our bank accounts by not running scared when the wolf arrives and by not giving in to fears that would blow our house down.  We can outsmart the wolf by concentrating on the good at hand.  The good life does not depend on extravagant indulgences.  The good life does not deprive, it exults.  We can live with happiness and grace if we rely on our own innate sense of what we must do with the resources we have to keep the wolf from sniffing too hungrily through our doors.  Our attitude is a choice and we all have something to be thankful for. A lack of fear will chase the wolf away.

This Thanksgiving, make a list of what or who you are thankful for that money cannot buy.  You will be amazed at how rich you really are!

Happy Thanksgiving!
