Davenport motorists are a bit closer to experiencing some relief at the intersection of Interstate 4 and U.S. Highway 27 near Posner Park.

When completed, the Ernie Caldwell Boulevard will be a 5.1 mile, four lane divided urban road that runs east-west from the west side of U.S. 27 to Pine Tree Trail.  Pine Tree Trail, upon completion, will be a two-lane suburban road stretching from County Road 54 to Ernie Caldwell Boulevard.

The county is building approximately one mile of roadway to connect two segments already completed privately by the Posner center and Oakmont subdivision.  Construction is proposed to take 600 days and is expected to be completed in February 2011.

These projects will improve the quality of life for Polk County residents and allow for economic development of the surrounding area.  It establishes an east-west connector road between U.S. 27 and U.S. 17-92 and by making the connection to County Road 54, it provides residents a method of passing through the area without using U.S. 27 or the interchange at I-4.    Not only will it be safer travel, but it will allow the movement of goods and services to continue without impeded pace.

This new Boulevard is being named for Ernie Caldwell, who served on the Polk County Commission in Regional Planning for 12 years and who represented the area of Polk County where the road is to located.

With more phases to be developed in Posner Park in the near future, this will be a necessary and welcome alternate route for the area.
