This past Sunday was the last day to enjoy Cypress Gardens until next March, 2009.  The owners made a surprising announcement last week to close the current adventure park for renovations and a return to the original attraction's history.

Future plans include expansion of the water park and preserving the history of the original park and botanical gardens.  Cypress Gardens has always been well known and famous for its exceptional gardens and water ski shows.  When the park re-opens in the spring, the park's current thrill rides and animal sections will be gone, as they are too expensive to maintain.  The owners are hoping that the expanded and renewed focus on what made the gardens so successful, will once again draw the crowds.

It is disappointing that this famous landmark will be closed throughout the holiday season, but it is a huge plus for the local economy that the park will not be shut down permanently.  Many local and winter residents got to enjoy the last weekend of the gardens at very low prices with large discounts on all merchandise.

Cypress Gardens is too important in the Winter Haven area to lose, and it is commendable that the owners are doing what they can to sustain this bit of history for hopefully many more years to come.
