The Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center's fourth-floor addition is almost ready for occupancy.  The 11-year old hospital has continued to grow, with construction ongoing for the past eight years.  Two floors have been added with the fourth floor - the surgical floor - being the completed tier.  This floor will initially be used for orthopedic and bariatric surgeries and could be expanded as needed.  Space on the fourth floor also will cater to the rehabilitation of the patient after surgery.

With the new floor, the hospital's 142 licensed beds will increase to 200.  The fifth floor is still a shell, but plans currently call for it to become the women's and children's services area in a year or two.  At that time, with increasing capacity, an expansion of the operating room area on the hospital's first floor is planned.

This local hospital, only 3 miles from I-4 (Exit 55) on Hwy 27 South, is doing more surgeries and reaching out to more communities as the "Four Corners" continues to grow.  See "Health Facilities" for further information.
