Almost every comment I hear these days contains the word "fear" . . . . fear of losing a job, fear of making a major purchase, fear of buying a house, fear of the stock market, just plain "fear" of everything, mainly the unknown.  I am wondering when we became so consumed in fear and let go of faith?

As we celebrate Thanksgiving this week, we should remember that from the Pilgrims of Plymouth Rock and the very first Thanksgiving, to the pioneers of our west, our country was founded on faith, not fear.  It took a huge "leap of faith" into the unknown and much risk for these founders to discover and develop a new world, new "frontier" and a better life for themselves.  But they conquered the fear and refused to give into it.  Instead, they focused on the great "opportunities" that lay before them and the excitement of the adventure that lay ahead.

As a country, we are giving thanks this year in the midst of one of the toughest times in our history.  But finding gratitude amid hardship brings us back to what Thanksgiving is all about.  As a nation, we face a return to simpler times with less materialism,  and need to be thankful for the simpler things:  our health, our family, our home and the life we have that is so much better than those in many other countries.

While giving thanks this week, we also need to remember that faith will conquer the fear and give us the positive energy needed to go forward and embrace those opportunities that are all around us.  There is good that comes from all adversity, and it gives us the chance to be creative in a way we would otherwise never think possible.

Opportunity exists now if we can get rid of the fear, and have the faith to look for it!  As the famous quote says, "There is nothing to fear, but fear itself!"

Happy Thanksgiving!
