While most festivals these days have become modernized with fast rides, bright lights and loud music, the small city of Davenport will host a festival on November 13th and 14th that is anything but.  The ninth annual "Quilts and Tea Festival" will celebrate the preservation of history and the customs of the past.

The Davenport Historical Museum will be home to the event's pre-Civil War quilt and this year a new "Wizard of Oz" quilt that was the first ever made by the city's mayor, will also be on display. 

The festival will feature antique sewing machines, vintage fabrics, and demonstrations and quilt displays in the City Council chambers at Davenport City Hall.  Also included in the Quilt and Tea Festival will be food and snacks, boutiques, antiques, vintage vehicles and lots of entertainment.

Since Davenport won the Best Rural Town in America award in 1997, there will be an All-American spin to this year's festival.  A patriotic flavor is coming from the "God Bless America" traveling quilt display of approximately 50 pictorial, 22-foot quilts, created by children and adults, which captures the essence of "America the Beautiful" by paying tribute to America's heroes, notably the troops and past presidents.  These patriotic quilts are accompanied by stories that thank U.S. Troops and they were well received during a recent visit to Iraq. 

Hosting such a festival brings people to the area who would otherwise never know anything about the city or where it is - namely a small-town America that does still exist and is a great place to live!
