My New Blog

Okay, enough about the economy already.  Last week ended on such a negative note that the entire country was depressed!

Well, one way to "forget" about our troubles for a little while is to get passionately involved with a favorite football team, whether it be college or professional.  I have been a Penn State fanatic since the 1960's when I went to my very first game at Beaver Stadium in "Happy Valley."  Following that, I attended Penn State myself, so did my late husband, my brother, his two brothers, and both my son and daughter.  We are truly a Penn State family - always said we bleed "blue" blood!  I still have the same 4 season football tickets and seats since 1976 and still go to some games whenever possible.  I have a Penn State flag and lawn "rock" at my home and my license plate tag reads:  PSU LVR - yes, I just love Penn State and have tremendous pride!

I first met Joe Paterno when he was just taking over as head coach for Rip Engle in the 60's.  I have grown old along with him (although I'm not in my 80's!) and my love and respect for him has continued to grow with the years.  His is a first class coach and person, expecting and demanding only the best from these young college kids, with a graduating rate of over 75%.

University Park, located in the heart of Central Pennsylvania, is in itself a treat to visit.  The rolling hills, the majestic "Nittany Mountains" (yes, this is where the Nittany Lion gets his name) and the expanse of the gorgeous campus have something for everyone to enjoy.  You can't leave without a visit to the Creamery - where just about any flavor of ice cream you can imagine is home made right there on the campus. Of course, there is one named for Joe called "Peachy Paterno."

It is quite a thrill to see this year's team currently ranked #3 in the nation, after many years of struggles, adversity, and criticism.  These young players are totally focused on a goal and a dream - and nothing (not even the economy) will stop them.

If we can all become passionate about what we are doing, and what we believe in, and then set our dreams and goals to follow this passion, then even a negative economy will not stop us!

For the glory. . . . . . . (You Penn Staters know what I mean)
