More good news for the Davenport economy:  The Polk Community College Board of Trustees voted last week to have the college buy land next to the Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center so that a branch classroom complex can be built.  This location is only 3.5 miles south from Exit 55 and I-4 where Posner Park Shopping Complex is located.

The trustees decided on this 8-acre lot with the infrastructure in  place, adjacent to the hospital along U.S. Highway 27, as part of the college plan to expand its presence in this area.  Polk Community College has plans to construct two classroom buildings up to eight stories high and one parking lot.  The property also has enough space to construct a third building if the school chooses to expand in the future.

In addition, Polk Community College officials are in the early stages of talk about another parcel of land owned by JL Land Development.  The college's plans for the undeveloped property in Ridgewood Lakes, along U.S. Hwy 27, include more multi-story classroom buildings as well as a third charter high school.  This property is ideally located.

Expansion of this kind will only bring positive results to the area in many ways.
