With the heat of summer here, it's time to fire up the grill and outdoor kitchens can bring fun and convenience to the grilling.  When making home improvements for added value, an outdoor kitchen is always a plus.

It should be designed with the help of a professional in order to compliment a pool deck or lanai area.  It can be painted and textured to match the home and it can be as large or small as desired with a typical L-shape.  Some have a sink with running water installed, a nice section where fruit can be cut up for drinks, and an ice chest. The "thrill of the grill" is the main feature, but the extra conveniences of an outdoor kitchen make meal preparation easier and quicker.

There is much more versatility and workspace, in addition to a place for people to sit while the cooking is done.  The kitchen can include seating for four at the bar on the other side of the L-shaped island, with a built-in stainless ice chest for drinks underneath.

So much of the value of a Florida home is in the patio area.  The grill area is an integral part of the outside atmosphere.  It's an entertainment center and an extension of living space.  In addition, it's a great way to beat the heat, keeping the indoor kitchen cool and odor-free, and can serve as a backup during power outages.

Outdoor kitchens do add value and appeal to a home.  With a cost of $10,000 to $16,000 for a fully equipped cooking area, the homeowner most likely will see a return on this investment in a future sale.
