What is happening in the economy certainly does not need to be mentioned here, but is has given food for thought on how "wasteful" we have all become in general, not just the government.   It is always more difficult to give up something once accustomed to it, but there are so many ways we are "wasteful" with the money we do have.  In these tough economic times, it is helpful to sit back and list some of those things we can do to curb spending and in so doing, maybe even improve our lifestyle.

Clipping coupons saves on groceries; taking shorter showers and eliminating leaky faucets saves water and electricity; driving slower saves gas.  You can save home energy costs by setting your air conditioning temperature higher, changing air filters regularly, using energy efficient light bulbs, using the dishwasher for only full loads, using cold water to wash clothes, keeping blinds closed when not home to reduce cooling costs, drinking filtered water instead of buying bottled. 

This could also be a good time to give up some things that would be beneficial to our well being and to do some things that would improve our family life:  stop smoking, eat less (and healthier), walk more when a car is not necessary, do our own nails again, watch home movies and make popcorn, read a good book instead of watching TV, play board games or cards together, ride a bike, fly a kite . . . . . . . rediscover your family.

Usually going through tough times will make us very thankful for what we have and more appreciative people . . . . . if we will let it.
